In this video, Morten Rand-Hendriksen discusses Gutenberg and how it is going to affect users. The clip is set to start at the 30 minute mark, where he talks about the frustration that it is being caused because of a lack of clear direction from WordPress itself.
It is worth watching the whole video though, to see how he argues for and against putting Gutenberg in the core and why there should really be a LTS version of WordPress that does not include it.
Morten Rand-Hendriksen is a staff author at LinkedIn Learning, specializing in WordPress and web design and development. He also contributes to the local WordPress community by organizing Meetups and WordCamps.
He is an ideal person to follow, because he is able to understand issues from both the user’s point of view and the WordPress and plugin developer’s point of view.
He has no agenda other than to analyse things objectively and offer his opinion on what alternative solutions can be found that are best for everybody and the internet in general.
Unlike some people who have polarised views on where WordPress should be heading and stomp on anybody who disagrees, he simply puts his arguments forward so you can make your own decision.
When he talks about a LTS (Long Term Support) version of WordPress, based on version 4.9, he is describing exactly what ClassicPress is doing. Take the last version that doesn’t have Gutenberg in the core and use that as a base for moving forward as a new fork of WordPress.
